Solaris MINIX (SMX) is a version of MINIX 2.0.0 that has been ported by Paul Ashton and Peter Smith to run as a SunOS process. The 1996 release of Solaris Minix is available on the Minix 2.0 CD-ROM distributed with the text Operating Systems Design and Implementation, 2nd edition, by Andrew S. Tanenbaum and Albert S. Woodhull. It is also available online from the official Minix distribution site at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
Fixes and supplemental material were posted by Paul Ashton on a website at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. This website has been unavailable for some time, although the pages could be found using the Wayback Machine of the Internet Archive. To make these pages more available, with Paul's permission I have reposted them here in the /smx directory on minix1.woodhull.com. Links have been modified to restore links that were modified by Internet Archive, and some links have been updated.
The main SMX page is minix1.woodhull.com/smx/smx.html.
There are three technical reports from Ashton and his colleagues:These files were archived in July 2003 and retrieved from the Internet Archive in January 2005. They were posted here by Al Woodhull, with the permission of Paul Ashton. Links have been modified to restore links that were modified by Internet Archive, and some links have been updated. I have left intact links to some other files from Paul's site that remain on the Internet Archive and that did not seem to be of as much interest as the Minix material.
Paul's technical reports also remain available from the University of Canterbury's Technical Reports page, http://nz.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/research/reports/TechReps/.
Please contact Paul Ashton for permission for further copying or posting. Current e-mail: Paul Ashton <P.Ashton@ext.canterbury.ac.nz>
