Contributed Software: Minix 3 Compatibility

As feedback is received this page will be updated to provide information on Minix 3 compatibility of contributed software originally written for or ported to Minix 2.

All of the usual standard utilities and programs distributed with previous versions of Minix will be installed when you install Minix 3, so these should present no problems.

Also, many packages have already been ported to Minix 3 that were not available at all or were available only as older versions for Minix 2. These include bzip2 1.0.3, emacs 21.4, gcc and gnu-coreutils 5.2.1, lynx2-8-5, nvi 1.79, perl, python 1.5.2, and vim. Some are on the Minix 3 CD-ROM image, all others can be downloaded from the http://www.minix3.org site.

Feedback on Minix 2 contributions: none so far.
