modified: 17 Jan 2003

What is Bochs?

"Bochs is a highly portable open source IA-32 (x86) PC emulator written in C++, that runs on most popular platforms. It includes emulation of the Intel x86 CPU, common I/O devices, and a custom BIOS. Will Minix run on the Bochs emulator?

The Minix 2.0.0 CD-ROM contains support for running Minix on the then-current version of Bochs. I'm not sure if the subsequent 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 releases of Minix run on Bochs. Also, Bochs itself has evolved. Bochs 2.0.1.was released on Jan 4, 2003. I'm not sure if all Minix releases run on all earlier versions of Bochs. Feedback requested!

Is a current Minix Bochs image available?

A post to comp.os.minix in Jan 2003 stated, " There are disk images for Bochs of several OSs posted on the Bochs site, but currently there is no Minix image." Within days this response appeared:

You can download Bochs 2.0.1 and a Minix 2.0.3 image from:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12580

Works great in Win2000.
