As of Fall 2006 I am working on a number of projects. One of the most interesting is doing C language programming for an environmental monitoring datalogger. The hardware is based on a Silicon Laboratories 8051F124 microcontroller. For this project I am a consultant to Pax Analytics of Hiesburg, VT.
During the Spring 2006 semester I was based in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, for Spring 2006. I taught Architecture and Assembly Language, one of my favorite courses. Teaching this course gave me an opportunity to become familiar with ARM RISC processors.
I began working on the 3rd edition of
Operating Systems Design and Implementation
in early 2003.
It was officially released by Prentice-Hall on January 4, 2006.
The new edition describes MINIX 3, a new version of the Minix operating system.
MINIX 3 has its own website.
MINIX 3 also has a mascot.
Why a raccoon? I can't explain that ...
In late 1996 I completed rewriting the Minix-specific parts
of the second edition of
Operating Systems Design and Implementation. This was closely tied to the
release of version 2.0 of the Minix operating system.
I have a
Minix home page
here, too.
I'm looking for new opportunities... My resumé is online, but posting a link attracts spammers. Please ask me by e-mail if you would like to view it: asw@woodhull.com.
