Standard to daylight time changes in US and Canada Previous to 2007, daylight saving (summer) time in the US and Canada began on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October. Starting in 2007 the US and Canada will change to daylight saving time on the second Sunday of March and will change back to standard time on the first Sunday in November. If you use a /etc/rc.timezone file to set the TZ environment string on your Minix system and you live in the US or Canada you need to edit the file. For instance, for a location in the US Eastern time zone, change the string that previously was TZ=EST5EDT,M4.1.0/2,M10.5.0/2 to TZ=EST5EDT,M3.2.0/2,M11.1.0/2 The TZ(5) man page has been corrected to show a correct example TZ string for the eastern US. The new version of this man page will be distributed with future Minix 3 releases. Updated TZ.5 and TZ.5.html files are here: http://minix1.woodhull.com/current/2.0.4/fixes/tz2007.tar.Z The archive also includes a sample rc.timezone file and another file, minix_tz_note.txt, which describes Minix non-compliance with POSIX in handling the daylight time to standard time transition.
