This directory contains alternatives to the standard Minix installations.
Minix 2.0.4 package for use with Bochs emulator.
Bootable CD-ROM, starts Minix 2.0.4 in 32 MB RAM disk (Korzynski et al).
This directory contains modified single floppy disk images, based on the
Minix installation boot floppy, but modified for more general use.
Qemu for teaching
A small precompiled image of Minix 2.0.0 for Qemu has been
developed at the University of Patras, Greece. Available are the
installer (link above) and HowTo documents for
This directory contains a compressed VMWare virtual machine to run Minix
2.0.4 on the free VMWare Player. It has been updated with all available
patches for Minix 2.0.4 as well as support for networking and exchanging
data between the guest and host operating systems using the host clipboard
(new May 2006).
This contains a Minix 2.0.4 image for Virtual PC, contributed by
Gary Driggs. This version starts FreeDOS on the virtual system,
and then boots DOSMinix.
A four-floppy disk set that provides temporary installation of a large
subset of Minix 2.0.0 on a large RAM disk (10M RAM required).
A single floppy disk that boots Minix 2.0.3 into an 8M RAM disk. This
is a small subset of Minix, but it includes useful utilities not part of
the standard ROOT+USR boot disk.
